Heidelberg, Germany, December 7th, 2020 – Migrating to S/4HANA is essential for companies using SAP. However, what does this journey entail? There are several approaches to this, and the decision is never an easy one.

The working group “SAP S/4HANA Selective Data Transition Engagement,” offers SAP customers common standards, methods, and processes for an individual and secure migration path to SAP S/4HANA. In addition to SAP, the working group includes the leading migration & transformation experts CBS, Datavard, Natuvion and SNP.

“The stereotypical thinking of Brownfield vs. Greenfield does not do justice to the uniqueness of each company, nor does it reflect the complexities of data and system migration. Furthermore, many SAP customers do not feel comfortable with all the differing terminology and multiple streams of different information. The approaching end of maintenance of SAP Business Suite 7 is just adding to this uncertainty,” explains Gregor Stoeckler, CEO of Datavard, describing the mood of many SAP users. In order to provide users with more safety & predictability, SAP has joined forces with leading migration & transformation experts from CBS, Datavard, Natuvion and SNP to form the SAP S/4HANA Selective Data Transition Engagement working group. This team of experts have developed and continue to develop common standards, methods and processes for reliable and proven migration approaches to SAP S/4HANA. This allows customers to choose the best of both worlds: A clean slate where necessary and preserving existing investments where appropriate.

Individual approaches and selective migration

The members of the working group continue to work closely with their customers on their specific migration projects. Questionnaires and analyses are used to develop an individual strategy for each customer. Many migration scenarios, which the working group has co-defined, help to achieve this. This gives customers around the world a better understanding of their options, possibilities, and advantages of a selective migration approach. These scenarios are constantly updated and expanded through a consistent exchange of knowledge. Thus ensuring shorter projects, reduced costs and minimizing risk when migrating to SAP S/4HANA – without having to sacrifice familiar quality standards.

“Selective Data Transition is a well-thought- out, highly sought after and uniquely tailored path to S/4HANA,” explains Gregor Stoeckler: “As part of the working group, Datavard’s goal is to show our customers a migration path as individual as their businesses and in conjunction with the other leading experts, to develop technology, methods and standards that make this path secure, fast and effective. Of course, we also offer our customers added value through our holistic data management approach (the Datavard Outboard tool set) from cleansing and archiving through decommissioning, as well as the integrated views of their transformation in terms of analytics and data warehousing.”

Valuable, active, and trusted community

The “SAP S/4HANA Selective Data Transition Engagement” working group has defined a common charter for itself. This charter contains quality standards for solutions, project management methodology and delivery of complex SAP S/4HANA migrations based on a list of recommended transition scenarios. The common standards also include best practices, templates, and a common approach to a software-based migration to SAP S/4HANA, which are jointly developed and agreed upon with experts from SAP.

“Our goal is to create a valuable, active and trusted community for our customers, SAP, and the members of the working group. Together with our partners, this enables us to provide the best possible support to customers on their way into the digital future,” sums up Gregor Stoeckler.
